Helsinki isn’t called “daughter of the Baltic” for no reason. I still think that the cities location so close to the open sea and the stunning archipelago is unique. I got to go on a Sightseeing cruise last week – amazing and I totally get why people do it. Last year I went on a comparable sunset cruise, this boat took a different and slightly short route.
Probably not quite in the line of the rest of the City Escape series, as being one of the most touristy things to be done – but it is absolutely amazing (if you don’t have your own boat at hand). I was with two friends who have also been living here for quite a long while, and we all were stunned by the beauty of the nature that surrounds our hometown.
Passing some of Helsinkis major sights like Suomenlinna and the Korkeasaari Zoo island, this boat is the only one from the sightseeing boats that can pass through the Degerö Canal which connects the Laajasalo peninsula and Herttoniemi. Let alone the view from leaving (and returning to) the harbour towards Kruunuvuorenselkä is magnificent, that view on the city – always breathtaking.
A piece of advice: buy some strawberries at Kauppatori before getting on the boat. They’re usually cheaper towards the end of the day!
Helsinki wird nicht grundlos “die Tochter der Ostsee” genannt. Die Lage so nah am offenen Meer und inmitten des Archipelagos ist einmalig und wunderschön. Ich hatte die Möglichkeit vergangene Woche eine fantastische Sightseeing-Bootsfahrt zu machen. Letztes Jahr habe ich eine vergleichbare Sunsetcruise gemacht, dieses Boot fuhr etwas anders und die Fahrt war kürzer.
Dieser Ausflug passt sicherlich nicht so ganz in die Reihe meiner restlichen “City Escapes”, weil es ungefähr mit das allerallertouristischste ist, was man machen kann – dennoch ist es fantastisch (wenn man kein eigenes Boot zur Hand hat). Wir waren zu dritt, alle schon seit langer Zeit in Helsinki, und jedes Mal sind wir von der Natur die unsere neues Zuhause umgibt, begeistert.
Wir fuhren an wichtigen Sehenswürdigkeiten wie Suomenlinna und die Zooinsel Korkeasaari vorbei, aber das Boot ist auch mit das Einzige Ausflugsboot, welches den Degerö Kanal passieren kann, der Laajasalo und Herttoniemi verbindet. Dennoch, allein der Blick auf die Stadt beim Verlassen (und der Rückkehr) des Hafens – jedes Mal wieder atemberaubend.
Kleiner Tipp: Erdbeeren kaufen und mitnehmen! Die Stände auf Kauppatori verkaufen diese gegen Ende des Tages günstiger – lohnt sich!
